The Rock Is A Mentor To Former WWE Champion
One of the biggest superstars in WWE considers The Rock as a mentor who always gives out valuable advice.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson isn’t an active WWE superstar anymore, but he is somebody who a lot of the current roster looks up to. The current WWE superstars look up to a guy like Rock due to his success in WWE as one of the best wrestlers ever, but also because of his massive success outside of WWE over the last 20+ years.
When WWE Monday Night Raw debuted on Netflix in Los Angeles, The Rock was on hand for a show opening promo. In the days that followed, there were several behind-the-scenes videos featuring Rock talking to various WWE stars.
In a video with former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, The Rock spoke to him backstage while McIntyre said some curse words that he’s not allowed to say on WWE programming. The video also featured McIntyre whispering something to Rock.
Drew McIntyre spoke to the Daily Mail about what Rock means to him and he also touched on their social media video as well.
“He has always looked out for me since the very beginning of my career, he’s always had such positive words. I just told a story about meeting his ex-wife, Dany, on a plane one time, and she told me herself and and Rock were big fans of mine and saw big things in the future, which was so cool to hear back then.
Then fast forward so many years later, in 2017 I believe it was when TMZ had asked him who he thought was going to be the next big player. And it wasn’t like I was about to win the Rumble. I was still kind of random, a bad guy on the show, and he was able to pick me out and go, ‘Drew McIntyre. He’s the one to keep an eye on’.
He always had such positive public comments. When I re-signed, I was sent the sword as a little gift. He has always been there for advice and to include me in his live stream after the match, I wasn’t exactly expecting it, but I feel very honored that he’s willing to shine a kind of light on me.
And he swore first, then I saw an opportunity. It’s so hard not to swear being Scottish. So I got a little laugh, and I got to ask a little favour, and he’s working on that for me.”
Drew McIntyre Can Differentiate The Rock From The Rest Of The Bloodline
The current storyline that McIntyre is involved in on WWE television involves him wanting to take out members of The Bloodline like Roman Reigns, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, and Sami Zayn. Drew also has targeted Solo Sikoa, who isn’t an ally of Reigns right now, but Solo was the person who cost Reigns the WWE Universal Championship at Clash at the Castle 2022 when Drew had Reigns beaten.
Since The Rock is also a part of The Bloodline, McIntyre has dealt with comments from fans on social media wondering why he is cool with him. McIntyre responded when he was asked about it by explaining that Rock is a mentor to him.
“There’s a mentorship-style relationship there. Already, I’ve seen some people after I posted a video on social media of the interaction… ‘Oh, you know he’s a member of The Bloodline?’
Wait a minute, am I not specific enough? I feel like I’m very, very clear when I talk and explain things, and then I even go to socials to extra explain things to people. If you’ve wronged me personally, I am coming for you.”
While The Rock’s next appearance in WWE is unknown, McIntyre has a big match against Seth “Freakin” Rollins on Monday Night Raw in Dallas on January 20th.
