The Rock Drops Major WrestleMania 40 Tease – “I’m Open”
To the delight of millions around the world, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson says he’s “open” for a major match at WrestleMania 40.
Long before he was the biggest star in Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson was delighting fans as he rose to the top of WWE. Other than a brief interaction with Erick Rowan that’s better off forgotten, he hasn’t wrestled a match since his 2013 bout with John Cena at WrestleMania 29.
For years, fans have discussed the idea of a dream match between Johnson and fellow Anoa’i member Roman Reigns, whose record-breaking Universal Championship reign alone places him in the history books as one of the greats.
During a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Johnson revealed that fans were close to getting the match between Rock and Reigns at WrestleMania 39. In fact, he claims the match was once “locked in” before plans fell through.
The Rock Teases Facing Roman Reigns At WrestleMania 40
Speaking to Pat McAfee, The Rock explained that failure to come up with an idea for an “unprecedented” moment between himself and Reigns led to the match being scrapped. However, he raised eyebrows in the crowd when he mentioned the upcoming WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, PA.
“So we got really really close, but we couldn’t actually nail what that thing was, so we decided to put our pencils down, and then we agreed, hey listen. There’s a merger coming up, eventually that will happen. There’s WrestleMania in Philadelphia… [crowd reacts as Rock raises his eyebrow]”
McAfee asked Rock what he was saying, and the Hollywood megastar said he’s “open” to competing on the Grandest Stage of Them All in 2024.
“I’m saying that’s a potential too. I’m open, I’m open, but again, let’s figure out what that is because the fans deserve something just incredible, unprecedented, and not only that, but I also want to deliver to the locker room, to the boys and the girls back there working their a**es off. What can we do to put them in a position where they’re part of something that is a new change, a new era in this world of pro wrestling.”
