The Rock Dream Match One That Got Away For WWE Hall Of Famer
The Rock might be the Final Boss these days but for years, he was the People’s Champion and for one WWE Hall of Famer, he wasn’t the only one.
While The Rock made his name as the People’s Champ in WWE, there was a star using that moniker as they rose through the ranks of WCW. That man was none other than Diamond Dallas Page – and it seems he thought when he joined WWE in 2001, a feud with The Rock would have written itself.
The Rock Says There’s Only 1 People’s Champ
Speaking to Metro, DDP reflected on never getting to face The Rock and revealed he did have a run-in with the man who shared his nickname and both of them staked their claim to it:
I wanted to do People’s Champion versus People’s Champion. That would have been insane money.
I was almost at the door, I heard The Rock, and he said, “Hey Diamond.” Now he’s been Dwayne Johnson the whole time I’m talking to him, all of a sudden, here comes The Rock. He said, “You know Diamond, there’s only one People’s Champion”. And Big Show was like, “Ohhh”, and I just dead panned him. And then I finally said, “You know, Rock, you’re right, and you my friend, you’re looking at him.
I took off, the eyebrow came up … That’s one of the the main matches I wish I could have had. But to be perfectly honest, if I get that match, my whole life goes in a different direction.
DDP recently signed a new deal with WWE after admitting he was impressed with what he saw under the new management of the company led by Triple H.
