The Rock Has Left Door Open For WrestleMania 40

The Rock at the head of the table

With The Rock now looking highly unlikely to be a part of WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles, a report says he has left the door open for an appearance in 2024.

WrestleMania ‘goes Hollywood’ once again in April as The Show of Shows emanates from Los Angeles, California. Many felt that would provide the perfect stage for The Rock to return to his first love after conquering the movie world to have a showdown for the ages with the man that claims to sit at the head of his family’s table, Roman Reigns.

But that doesn’t look like it is on the cards after all, with Reigns now set to face 2023 men’s Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 39.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that The Rock could still appear at WrestleMania 39 but the ship has sailed on him competing at the event. Interestingly Meltzer also says that the door is open for when WWE celebrates four decades of their showpiece event in 2024:

“Dwayne could be there in some way or fashion. There are people going, ‘Oh, don’t you think it’s a swerve they keep saying,’ it’s not a swerve. I’ve been told this for a while. There’s always the maybe it’s a secret like the Pat McAfee thing right? (Royal Rumble surprise return). Only a few people know.”

“We’re past that point, Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble. He’s getting the championship match. It ain’t’ Dwayne anymore. Dwayne’s not wrestling anybody else unless it’s a three-second match….He did not feel that he had the time to get in the shape that he needed to be in to do a Wrestlemania-caliber main event and he left the door open for next year.”
