The Rock “Leaves Crack In The Door” For WWE Return

The possibility of The Rock appearing at WrestleMania 40 has been addressed one year ahead of the huge two-night event in Philadelphia.

Since WrestleMania 39 is behind us, let the rumors begin about Dwayne “The Rock” possibly appearing at next year’s WrestleMania 40 event in Philadelphia. WrestleMania 40 will take place on April 6 and April 7, 2024 which means it will be the fifth-straight year of WWE doing a two-night WrestleMania event.

The last time The Rock had an advertised and lengthy match in WWE was ten years ago at WrestleMania 29 in 2013 when he lost the WWE Title to John Cena. The Rock did compete in an impromptu match at WrestleMania 32 in 2016 when he beat Erick Rowan with a Rock Bottom, but there was no bump. It was just a five-second thing.

For most of the last year, there were rumors that the 50-year-old movie star that’s a future WWE Hall of Famer known as The Rock might compete in a WWE ring one more time against his cousin Roman Reigns, who is the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion since WrestleMania Goes Hollywood this year. Obviously, it didn’t happen and Rock didn’t appear at WrestleMania at all.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer commented on how The Rock is keeping “a crack in the door” open about the possibility of one more match in WWE.

“Reigns had pretty much gone through everyone at the top tier on the roster, and with the exception of GUNTHER or, of course, The Rock.”

“Dwayne Johnson, when he turned down this year due to schedule, did leave a crack in the door open about possibly doing Philadelphia at WrestleMania 40 next year, but that was far from a commitment and certainly nothing anyone should count on happening. There didn’t appear to be another new challenger on the horizon.”

It’s worth pointing out that Roman Reigns hasn’t beaten Seth Rollins during his championship run. Rollins actually beat Reigns at Royal Rumble 2022 by disqualification and there was no follow-up to it.
