The Rock Can’t Wait To See NXT Star On The Main Roster

The Rock has an eye on the next generation.

On January 7th, Oba Femi won the NXT Championship in a Triple Threat Match featuring now-former champion Trick Williams and Eddy Thorpe.

The victory capped an impressive run through NXT for the former track and field college star who only signed with WWE in late 2021. Femi made his in-ring debut a year later and went on to become the longest-reigning North American Champion in history.

Despite his inexperience, the star has become a main player in NXT delivering a series of eye-catching performances opposite the likes of Dragon Lee, Dijak, Wes Lee, and more.

The Rock Is Excited About Oba Femi

During a new interview with Cameron Hawkins for Uncrowned, Femi discussed his rapid rise in NXT and a recent conversation with The Rock backstage at New Year’s Evil. The star revealed that The Great One said he can’t wait to see him on the main roster.

“I’ve come around at a very opportune time when big-man wrestling is not the main thing. It’s become like a niche, almost a lost art because everyone’s doing Canadian Destroyers and everyone’s high flying and everyone’s spring-boarding, trying to pop the crowd. …

It’s refreshing that the fans get to see an Oba Femi who comes in and stays on the ground and is physical and fires up and is riled up. I think people miss that…[The Rock] said, ‘Good job, great match. Can’t wait to see you on the main roster,’”

Following New Year’s Evil, Oba Femi sent a warning to “Uncle Dwayne” for taking his TV time.

Femi will be back on January 21st when he puts the NXT Title on the line against Eddy Thorpe. The match will be his first official title defence since winning the gold.

Meanwhile, The Rock’s in-ring WWE future remains as confusing as ever, with some reports suggesting the company is planning for WrestleMania 41 without him. The most recent report on the situation noted that a planned match with Cody Rhodes is now officially “off,” but he could yet face Roman Reigns, although the match might not take place at WrestleMania.
