The 1 Reason Big E Has Not Returned To A WWE Ring

Big E

Former WWE Champion Big E has explained exactly the one reason why he can’t return to the ring over two years since he broke his neck.

Big E is best known for his time in WWE as part of The New Day where he captured different versions of the WWE Tag Team Championship 8 times. In 2021 Big E became Mr. Money In The Bank and in September of that year, he cashed in to become WWE Champion.

After losing that title, Big E found himself back in the tag team ranks with The New Day and on the March 11th 2022 edition of SmackDown disaster struck in a match pitting The New Day against Sheamus & Ridge Holland. Holland attempted an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on the floor to Big E but the New Day star did not fully rotate and landed hard on the top of his head, breaking his neck.

Since then, every WWE fan has clamoured for his safe return to the ring but that has never happened and now we know exactly why.

Big E Not In Pain After Broken Neck

Speaking to Chris Vannini on Getting Over, Big E explained that although his neck has healed, the injured vertebra has not produced new bone and he won’t get medically cleared to get back in the ring until it does and that’s not a certainty:

Now we’re at two years and running since I broke my neck. I broke my C1 in two places, my C6 as well. I feel great. I have no issues with pain, no issues with discomfort, weakness, any of those things. My strength is great.

The only issue is my C1 is healing fibrously, which is great for normal day-to-day life, but it’s not turning into new bone and ossifying yet. They’re not going to clear me until that happens. It’s obviously a very important bone. Right now, that is the waiting game.

I did go to Cancun about a month ago for stem cells. We’ll see if that changes anything. Right now, I feel great, I’m just not in a position to be cleared quite yet.

Big E added that he was happy to get back in front of a WWE crowd at the Money In The Bank countdown show:

It was cool. It was just a little hit for the countdown show. The cool part for me was, even though there weren’t a ton of fans in the arena, getting some love again was very very cool. It’s nice being back. It’s something that I’ve been doing for 15 years and it feels like a second home in many ways.
