The New Day Pay Tribute To Infamous WWE Star At WrestleMania

The New Day paid tribute to former WWE Superstar Giant Gonzalez at WrestleMania 41.

The villainous duo of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have often given a nod to other forms of entertainment with their in-ring attire in recent years, with previous gear giving an affectionate nod to the likes of Sonic The Hedgehog, Final Fantasy XIV and Dragon Ball Z.

With WrestleMania 41 emanating from Las Vegas, Nevada, the dastardly duo introduced some unique attire for their bout with War Raiders at the company’s top Premium Live Event.

The duo sported ring gear with a powerful physique airbrushed onto the body with both shoulders featuring a large amount of fur. The bizarre outfit was a nod to former WWE Superstar, Giant Gonzalez.

The late 7ft 7inch giant made his only ever appearance on ‘The Grandest Stage Of Them All’ at WrestleMania 9, also held in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada on 4th April 1993.

Gonzalez, who made his WWE debut just weeks earlier at Royal Rumble 1993, became just the third man to be defeated by The Undertaker at WrestleMania during the fondly remembered event having been disqualified after smothering ‘The Dead Man’ with a chloroform-soaked rag.

Gonzalez departed WWE shortly after his defeat to The Undertaker at SummersSlam 1993 and sadly passed away 17 years later in his native Argentina, aged just 44 years old.

The New Day Capture Tag Team Gold

The New Day captured the WWE World Tag Team Championship for the twelfth time on night one of WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas on 19th April.

The legendary duo defeated the War Raiders in a hard-hitting bout at Allegiant Stadium, picking up the win in a 9 minute encounter after Woods pinned Ivar, with assistance from Kingston, to seal the victory in controversial fashion.
