The Godfather Claims Hulk Hogan Is “Not The Good Guy People Think He Is”
The Godfather has opened about why he was not a friend of Hulk Hogan when they worked together at WrestleMania 8 and they aren’t friends now.
While The Godfather had his best WWE run as a “pimp” character in The Attitude Era that fit what WWE was doing at the time, it was not his only gimmick. The WWE Hall of Famer also had runs as the mysterious Papa Shango and Kama Mustafa as well.
WrestleMania 8 was headlined by Hulk Hogan facing Sid Vicious in a match that wasn’t a title match. The match ended in controversy with a disqualification, but it did not go smoothly. Papa Shango was supposed to be there to cause the DQ, but instead, they tried to say that manager Harvey Wippleman’s interference was why Sid was disqualified. After the bell rang, Papa Shango finally got out there and then Hogan was the victim in a 2-on-1 attack until The Ultimate Warrior made the save to end the show on a happy note.
During a recent episode of Midnight Hustle Podcast, The Godfather spoke about why being part of that WrestleMania 8 main event didn’t matter that much to him:
“I was going through a bad divorce at that time, so Hogan, Warrior, Sid… that sh*t didn’t mean anything to me. I mean, nothing. I didn’t care about Hogan, bro. He wasn’t no friend of mine. Still isn’t, you know. It doesn’t even matter, doesn’t even matter. He’s not the good guy people think he is, and I’ll let it go at that.”
The Godfather also tried to explain what happened in that WrestleMania 8 main event when he apparently missed his cue, but he claims he did what he was told:
“They had nobody else with heat on them so I kind of got thrown to the dogs, but that’s business, bro. I’m a businessman. It is what it is. The thing on being late, they just sent me late. I never even knew I was late. I just knew when they sent me I was supposed to go.”
The Godfather was a regular part of WWE through the 1990s until his 2002 release. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016 while reminding us all that pimpin’ ain’t easy.
