Taz Thanks Tony Khan And AEW Following Hall Of Fame Induction

Taz in AEW

AEW commentator and ECW icon Taz has been given a special honor.

In the minutes after the August 27 episode of Dynamite went off the air, a whole raft of AEW stars, family members, and AEW personnel came to the ring as part of a tribute to ECW legend Taz.

The taping was being held in the famous 2300 Arena, which was once home to the Extreme brand. It was then announced by Tony Khan that Taz would be inducted into the venue’s Hardcore Hall of Fame.

While addressing fans, Taz thanked his wife and Hook — who made his AEW return on the show — for “kayfabing” him, and said that he had some special memories in the building.

A tribute to the former ECW World Champion is expected to air during the August 30 episode of Collision, and his Hardcore Hall of Fame banner will be raised to the rafters.

Taz Was Taken By Surprise

In a post on social media after the taping, Taz admitted that he was blindsided by the honor before thanking Tony Khan and the AEW roster.

I was completely blindsided & extremely surprised after this acknowledgment for me in Philadelphia last night at 2300 Arena.

THANK YOU @TonyKhan & @aew production, all the talent on the roster for taking the time to acknowledge my contributions to the industry, all the fans & that you made sure my wife and son was there right next to me last night durning it! Words cannot describe what this meant to me …thank you.

Very much appreciated! 🙏

The August 27 edition of Dynamite marked Taz’s return to the AEW commentary table after he missed the company’s recent trip to the United Kingdom. The veteran opted to stay at home as he continues to recover from knee replacement surgery. He was replaced by Bryan Danielson.

Dynamite was the first of several AEW and ROH tapings at the 2300 Arena in the coming weeks. This will include ROH Death Before Dishonor on August 29, and a special episode of Collision on September 11 to mark the end of the run.
