Swerve Strickland Wants WWE To Do More With Underused Star

Swerve Strickland entrance AEW WrestleDream

Swerve Strickland wants WWE to invest in a forgotten star.

AEW star Swerve Strickland knows all about what it’s like to be overlooked and underused by WWE. Despite making a strong impression as part of Hit Row in NXT, Strickland and the rest of the group were unceremoniously released, just weeks after being called up to the main roster.

Following his departure, Strickland signed with AEW and was quickly one of the company’s biggest success stories. Not only has the star earned praise for his performances far and wide, but he went on to become the first-ever Black AEW World Champion.

Following their match at All In, Bryan Danielson said he couldn’t believe WWE had let Strickland go.

Swerve Strickland Talks Up Cedric Alexander

During an appearance on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Strickland talked up Cedric Alexander who he believes WWE is also yet to get the best out of. Alexander first appeared for the company in 2016 when he starred in the Cruiserweight Championship. He went on to become part of the Hurt Business alongside MVP, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin.

It was recently revealed that Alexander has signed a new WWE contract, meaning he won’t be joining the reformed Hurt Business in AEW.

While discussing the star, Strickland was full of praise for his natural ability.

“Cedric Alexander. Big time. That’s my brother. I was literally one of the groomsmen in his wedding. When I moved to Florida, he was one of the people who really held me down. We couldn’t get a couch. Him and Malakai Black pitched in money for me to buy a couch for the apartment. I still have that couch. I will never get rid of it because of that.

Cedric was instrumental in that little space in between of me taking it to the next level on the indies. Not as Killshot, but on the indies, working with Cedric, I had two or three matches with him and that’s where it was like, ‘I’m figuring it out and getting it.’

Cedric, there is so much raw and unadulterated talent in that man. Even with himself, I think he’s still nervous to fully express himself. You never get that until you push them and get that open time. I think he needs that.

They just re-signed him for another three years. You invest in him. You show that investment in him. I want to see more investment in him. There are a lot of people that can learn from him and there is a lot that the fanbase can learn from watching him. I still want it for him so bad. That’s a brother and a name I don’t throw out too often, but Cedric, for sure.”

Swerve Strickland recently signed a new AEW contract, making him one of the highest-paid stars in the company.
