Swerve Strickland AEW

Swerve Strickland enjoys working with a veteran backstage.

Coming out of Revolution, Swerve Strickland is flying as high as ever. On the show, he beat Ricochet to become the number one contender for the World Championship, and he ended the night standing tall over current champion Jon Moxley.

Since joining the company in March 2022, Strickland has established himself as one of the biggest stars on the roster while becoming its first Black World Champion. During this period, he’s wrestled several acclaimed matches against Hangman Adam Page, and he’s now revealed the identity of a veteran who has helped him along the way.

During an interview with Bootleg Kev, Strickland credited Dustin Rhodes with helping put his matches together. The former World Champion was quick to point out that Rhodes doesn’t tell him what to do, but he offers suggestions and gives advice.

“Dustin, in general, he’s been the guy behind a lot of my great matches,” Strickland said. “He doesn’t tell me what to do, but he suggests things and where they should go. And he always puts a perspective on it where I’m like, ‘Oh, now you got me really thinking.’ And then I’m like, ‘How would you do it?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I would go this way with it,’ but he never tells me what to do.”

Ahead of Grand Slam Australia, it was revealed that Dustin Rhodes was in charge of producing Mercedes Mone vs. Harley Cameron. When all was said and done, the match was incredibly well-received by fans.

Swerve Strickland Shares AEW Contract Details

During the same interview, Swerve Strickland confirmed he’s under contract with AEW until 2029. The star signed the deal back in August, with reports citing WWE sources who felt he was being overpaid compared to what his former employer felt he was worth.

After discussing his contract, Strickland admitted he still occasionally gets frustrated with creative, but he works through these issues with Tony Khan.

There’s no word on when Strickland will get his shot at the AEW World Championship.
