Swerve Strickland Spells Out Difference Between AEW & WWE

Swerve Strickland AEW

Swerve Strickland thinks fans can enjoy both WWE and AEW.

Despite an impressive run on NXT, Swerve Strickland was released by WWE just two weeks after making his main roster debut.

Following his shock departure, Strickland returned to the independent scene before signing with AEW in March 2022. Since then, his star has reached new heights and he became World Champion in April 2024.

Given his recent experience in both companies, perhaps no one is better placed to compare the two.

During an interview with Bootleg Kev, Strickland discussed the differences between AEW and WWE, concluding that fans can easily enjoy both products.

“It’s almost like you get the big box offices movies and all that stuff over there, but over there you don’t get green screen, you don’t get wires. Can you friggin act? That’s what AEW is. You have to act in order to perform in our films. We’re A24. The performances and acting have to be pristine. You can enjoy both and both are successful. That’s the beauty of it,”

Swerve Strickland Staying With AEW

In the same interview, Swerve Strickland confirmed he’s under contract with AEW until 2029. The star signed the deal back in August, with reports citing WWE sources who felt he was being overpaid compared to what his former employer felt he was worth.

At Revolution, Strickland became the number-one contender for the AEW World Championship after beating Ricochet. He then ended the night standing tall over champion Jon Moxley after jumping on his rival from a balcony.

Strickland will face the winner of an upcoming bout between Moxley and Cope at Dynasty.
