Surprising Truth Behind MJF’s Shock UK Title Match
MJF was the driving force behind his match at RevPro Summer Sizzler.
On August 11th, MJF made a rare trip to the UK to face Michael Oku at London’s famous York Hall. In the end, it was the AEW man who got the win before being confronted by Will Ospreay who was making a surprise appearance of his own.
Ospreay and Friedman are set to meet at All In at Wembley Stadium on August 25th.
In an interview with Mark O’Brien for WrestleMobs (via Bodyslam.net) RevPro boss Andy Quilan revealed that the AEW star personally requested the match with Oku.
“MJF asked for Michael Oku. He called me and said, ‘I would like to wrestle Michael Oku. This is when I’d like to wrestle him.’ We live for these moments… It’s my job to move heaven and earth to make these things happen,”
Quilan added that trying to line up schedules wasn’t always easy, but said the match said a lot about the talent currently working with RevPro.
“MJF is a busy man, and with his commitments to AEW, we had to work around a lot of moving parts. The fact that MJF chose Oku as his opponent shows the respect he has for him, and that speaks volumes about the level of talent we have here at RevPro,”
MJF Dismisses Controversial Britt Baker Incident
Off the back of his win over Oku, MJF hit back at reports of a big locker room bust-up with Britt Baker.
On August 2nd it was reported there was recently a backstage altercation involving Britt Baker, Alicia Atout, and MJF. Baker was fined and suspended following the incident where it’s claimed she was venting her frustration about MJF.
These comments reportedly found their way back to the former World Champion via his partner Alicia Atout. This sparked altercations between Baker and Atout and Baker and MJF, with the latter later punching a wall.
However, the American Champion said the reports were overblown.
