Surprising Name First Spotted Dominik Mysterio’s Potential As A Heel
Dominik Mysterio was born to be a heel.
At AAA x WWE Worlds Collide on September 12, Dominik Mysterio beat El Hijo del Vikingo in the main event to become the Mega Championship. In doing so, he became the first Mysterio to win AAA’s top prize, despite Rey Mysterio starring for the promotion in the 1990s.
After dispatching Vikngo, Dominik ordered his father, Rey, to place the championship belt around his waist.
The win is another landmark moment for Dominik Mysterio, who is already the WWE Intercontinental Champion and one of the top heels in the entire company.
Dominik Mysterio Was Always Meant To Be A Heel
During an appearance on the Club 520 podcast, Rey admitted that deep down, he always knew Dominik would surpass his own achievements. He added that he wished he could have shared his son’s confidence and poise at the same age.
Interestingly, Rey revealed that it was his wife, and Dominik’s mother, who first suggested that he could excel as a heel.
“Deep down in my thoughts, I’ve always said or knew that he was going to be something bigger than what I did. I didn’t know how.
My wife was the first one to spot and point out that she never saw him as the good guy. She always saw him as a bad guy in the ring, which now makes complete sense. She spent more time with him than I did because I was traveling so much. She was mom and dad.
But to see his growth over the past four years and how he just evolved into this character and embraced it and just now completely owns it is awesome, man. His confidence is… I wish I had some of that when I was his age, and I wish I knew what he knows now when I was his age. I had no clue. I was learning as I was going.
But I think the huge factor in this is he was… he was thrown in right away to swim with sharks, and he figured that out. He learned how to swim with sharks. So, you know, I think personally that’s why he’s in the spot that he’s in now.”
One person especially delighted by Dominik Mysterio’s latest victory was Liv Morgan. The former Women’s World Champion might still be out of action with a major shoulder injury, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been keeping a keen eye on “Daddy Dom.”
