The Surprising Part Of CM Punk’s Career That Was The Time Of His Life
CM Punk is enjoying life in WWE and says it’s the most creative locker room he’s ever been a part of as he refuses to rule out one interesting idea.
CM Punk will return to the ring for the first time in 8 months when he finally gets to face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam. McIntyre and Punk have been at odds since the Scottish star injured Punk in the Royal Rumble but they won’t be left to their own devices entirely as the chaos they have caused meant Raw General Manager Adam Pearce named Seth Rollins as their special guest referee.
However, it’s an earlier time in CM Punk’s career that he recently looked fondly back on as he recalled leading the Straight Edge Society faction that included Luke Gallows and Serena Deeb.
Speaking to Ringside Collectibles, CM Punk admitted he loved playing the holier-than-thou straightedge preacher and said playing the ultimate bad guy was the time of his life:
That was a special time in my career (leading Straight Edge Society). You always hear people say, like, ‘Oh, my character is me turned up to 11’ and man, was that ever me turned up to 11.
The preachy, you take everything that is stereotypical about the straight edge and the whole movement and the subculture and you get to play that as a bad guy on television and that was the time of my life. It was just so fun to be super preachy and trying to weave in a lot of religious tones, trying to force my stuff on other people. It was the ultimate bad guy. It was the time of my life.
CM Punk Won’t Rule Out Another Faction
As far as if CM Punk will ever lead another faction, it’s something he’s open to as he lavishes praise on WWE’s current creative process:
I’m not gonna say no (to if I’ll lead another faction or not) because you never say never. I don’t see it happening in the foreseeable future, but you never know what’s gonna happen. That’s the cool thing about where we’re at as a company right now.
Creatively speaking, this is the most fruitful, creative locker room that I think I’ve ever been in where ideas aren’t ignored and shot down and people are eager to share ideas. So, somebody someday could have a brilliant idea. Something that I have blinders on and can’t see, and I would be receptive to any of the ideas as long as they’re good.
