Surprising NXT Star Touted For WWE Title Glory

Few WWE stars have had as impressive a start to 2024 as NXT North American Champion Oba Femi and it seems the sky is the limit for him.

25-year-old former shot putter Oba Femi caught many people’s attention at the tail end of 2023 and did so again at New Year’s Evil when he won the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament at the expense of Riley Osborne. With that win came a title shot any time, any place, and Femi wasn’t wasting time to shoot his shot.

After Dragon Lee had defeated Lexis King to retain the NXT North American Title on the 9th of January edition of NXT he was soon confronted by Oba Femi. It took Femi just over a minute to put Lee away with a Last Ride powerbomb and claim the first gold of his young WWE career but it seems it won’t be his last.

Oba Femi Is WWE Championship Material

Fightful Select has now reported that Oba Femi has impressed WWE officials since capturing the NXT North American Championship. One source noted that Femi is expected for big things in WWE and that the star is seen as someone who could hold the WWE Championship.

There is said to be a level of surprise given his development in such a short space of time but a common comment made about Oba Femi within the company is that he is the “total package.”

It should be noted that a WWE source made clear that there is no rush to get Femi to the main roster despite his current burgeoning popularity.

No match has yet been confirmed for Oba Femi at NXT Stand & Deliver over WrestleMania 40 weekend but that show will see a hugely anticipated bout between two old friends as Trick Williams will finally get his hands on Carmelo Hayes in the ring.
