Surprising AEW Reaction To Malakai Black’s Exit

Malakai Black AEW

It seems Malakai Black is on his way out of AEW and there might not be too many people in the company sad to see him go.

On the January 8th edition of AEW Dynamite, Buddy Matthews came up short against Will Ospreay. After the match, Ospreay praised Matthews and Brody King, telling them to leave their roles in the House of Black behind.

Many took this as a sign Malakai Black could be leaving the company, and it was later reported that those within AEW didn’t expect him back. Furthermore, it’s been reported that WWE creative expects Black to re-sign with the company when he becomes a free agent in February or March.

Although nothing official has been confirmed, there was another clear sign Malakai Black was done with AEW on Collision. Adam Copeland interrupted an interview between Lexy Nair and Brody King. The veteran outlined his respect for King, Julia Hart, and Buddy Matthews. Again, there was no mention of Black as Cope urged King to “take the reins and run.”

Did Malakai Black Refuse To Lose In AEW?

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer gave some insight into Black’s apparent departure and it seems there are many in AEW who are pleased he’s gone and indicates that the rumours about Black’s unwillingness to lose seem to be true:

He’s gone, he’s not gonna be on TV again most likely. It’s funny, as talented as he is, everyone I’ve asked about it, they all kind of have the same story and it’s kind of like “good.” So whatever that’s worth.

I think whatever it is there are people that had that feeling…he did work hard in his matches, I’m not saying he didn’t but he wanted to go back [to WWE] and I think it was very clear he wanted to go back. Once you get that thing where you wanna go back, it doesn’t work out to put you on TV or anything like that. Especially if you’re not comfortable losing, it makes it a lot worse.

Malakai Black previously hit out at rumours about his AEW exit but this time, he has made no comment on the situation.
