Money In The Bank proved to be a night of surprises, but there was one unexpected star that WWE had to get on the show.
Money In The Bank proved to be a successful night for two WWE stars as they captured the briefcases that guarantee them a future shot at a world title. Naomi captured Money In The Bank to put WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton and Women’s World Champion IYO SKY on notice before Seth Rollins walked away with the briefcase for the second time in his career.
But all of that paled in significance to the surprise that took place at the end of the show during John Cena and Logan Paul’s tag team match with Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso. R-Truth shocked the world by making his return to the company just days after revealing that his time in WWE was coming to an end.
But it seems that R-Truth was not the only star WWE was desperate to get on the show.
WWE Wants Mr. Iguana
Worlds Collide, featuring AAA and WWE stars, aired just a mile away from where Money In The Bank was happening earlier on the same day.
One star seemed to catch the eye of WWE fans like no other, as Mr. Iguana became a firm favourite. The 36-year-old Mexican teamed with Octagon Jr. and Aero Star to defeat WWE’s Lince Dorado, Cruz Del Toro, and Dragon Lee. Iguana’s antics, which included wrestling alongside an iguana puppet, captured the attention of the crowd, and WWE took notice.
Fightful Select has reported that the reaction to Mr. Iguana was so strong that the feeling inside WWE was “we have to get him to Inuit Dome for a Money in the Bank appearance.” The reaction to Iguana at the WWE show was said not to have disappointed.
One NXT star has confirmed they’ll push for Mr. Iguana to make more WWE appearances, and the star was said to be popular in the locker room as well. Higher-ups in the company noted Iguana was a “pleasure” and open to doing any and all promotional work needed of him. Crucially, perhaps, is the fact that Mr. Iguana’s merchandise is said to have performed exceptionally well and that there are already talks taking place about how to produce iguana puppets.
