Stunning Update On The Rock’s WWE Future
A new report has given a surprising update on The Rock’s WWE future.
At Bad Blood, The Rock made his first appearance on WWE television since featuring on the second night of WrestleMania 40. The Hollywood megastar came out at the end of the show and stood at the top of the ramp as the crowd went wild.
As Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Jimmy Uso looked on from the ring, Rock counted down from three followed by a cut-throat hand gesture, and left. However, he immediately went live on Instagram and delivered a lengthy promo as he left the arena.
Many believed the appearance was to set up the storyline for his next return to the ring, while it was reported that a Triple Threat Match between The Rock, Reigns, and Rhodes is now on the table.
It had previously been reported that there were plans for The Rock to face Cody Rhodes in singles action at WrestleMania 41. This linked into the showdown between the pair on the Raw after WrestleMania.
The Rock Could Miss WrestleMania
However, it’s been reported by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that as of October, The Rock isn’t scheduled for WrestleMania.
However, as of right now, Dwayne Johnson is not scheduled for the show. Obviously that could change and he’s going to do what he wants all the time.
While nobody can say it publicly, some with old school mentalities didn’t like the idea that he stole the show and it ‘s not building to a match. “He’s not going to be able to do Mania. He already gave word that he wouldn’t be able to do that match” when asked bout Rock vs. Reigns vs. Rhodes…
“The story is simply his schedule got too heavy, he couldn’t commit to doing it right.”
Meltzer went on to cite someone at the top of the card who explained that these types of plans are kept secret from talent.
Another person who would be intricately involved in the top of the card program said that he had no idea about anything. These things are largely kept secret from the talent because as noted last year, the plan for Rock vs. Reigns to headline WrestleMania was being negotiated through December and agreed to in early January.
Interestingly, in a post on social media addressing his appearance at Bad Blood, The Rock hinted he might not be back with WWE for a while.
