Stone Cold Steve Austin Originally Had Bigger Role At WrestleMania 41

Stone Cold Steve Austin

WWE wanted Steve Austin to be closer to the action at WrestleMania.

At WrestleMania 41, Stone Cold Steve Austin made a popular appearance on night two to announce the attendance. The veteran entered on his now trademark ATV before accidentally crashing it into the barrier at ringside.

Austin’s involvement at the show had been rumoured for several months, but thanks to knee surgery, anything too physical was out of the question. However, original plans for the WWE were a little different.

In one scene in the new docuseries WWE: Unreal, an early WrestleMania card can be seen scribbled onto a whiteboard. One of these matches would have seen Drew McIntyre face Bron Breakker, with Austin serving as the special guest referee.

In the end, McIntyre faced Damian Priest in a Sin City Street Fight, and Bron Breakker lost the Intercontinental Championship to Dominik Mysterio in a Fatal-Four-Way Match.

Could Steve Austin Wrestle Again?

In the months after WrestleMania 41, it was reported that Steve Austin is open to getting back in the ring. Austin has wrestled just once since 2003, beating Kevin Owens in the main event of WrestleMania 38.

According to the report, Austin told those around him during WrestleMania weekend that he might have “one more left in him.” The company approached Austin with the offer of a match with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, but, obviously, it ended up not happening.

Back in May, Steve Austin admitted he’d be open to competing in an exhibition match, but claimed he was at peace with never wrestling again.
