Sting’s Son Admits Tough Conversations Over Wrestling Dream
The son of WWE Hall Of Famer Sting has opened up about difficult conversations with his Father regarding a future in professional wrestling.
Steven Borden was last seen on AEW television alongside brother Garrett at AEW Revolution on 3rd March 2024. The duo donned outfits from their Father’s past as the former WCW Champion made his entrance for his retirement bout, an AEW Tag Team Championship defence with partner Darby Allin against The Young Bucks.
Speaking during a recent appearance on ‘‘The Von Erichs’ YouTube channel, Steven Border revealed that his Father was less that impressed when he declared his own desire to step into the squared circle:
“When I told him (Sting) I wanted to wrestle? Uh, no (he was not excited). That was a tough conversation… You guys (Von Erichs) probably got a similar lecture.”
Borden Junior admitted that he lacked experience having spent most of his sporting life playing football, however he has recently trained with the likes of Adam Copeland and FTR in Asheville, North Carolina and believes that he is already benefiting from their advice:
“There’s a huge list (of people I can learn from in wrestling). I think, for me, the people that have made the biggest impact on me, starting with Darby (Allin).
I mean, he’s the first person that I spoke to outside of my dad when I decided to wrestle and I’ve spent a lot of time in the ring with Darby, and then after that, it’s been Dax (Harwood), FTR, Dax and Cash (Wheeler), and Adam Copeland and his wife Beth (Phoenix).
Those people, I can’t say enough positive about and between them, they’ve sent me more references to watch than I can keep up with.”
Sting Makes Surprising Admission About AEW Future
Despite making his final in-ring appearance for the company at Revolution, it appears that Sting is far from done with AEW.
The 65 year-old made a shock return during AEW All In at London’s Wembley Stadium on 25th August, thrilling the huge crowd as he returned to save former tag team partner Darby Allin from a vicious post-match attack by The Elite.
Despite no longer being an active competitor, Sting recently announced that he remained under contract with AEW and confirmed that future on-screen appearances were likely.
