Steve Austin Facing Lengthy Recovery After Surgery
Steve Austin is recovering well.
Back in October, Steve Austin revealed he was set to undergo surgery to fix a long-standing knee injury. While knee problems dogged Austin for much of his wrestling career, the legend revealed that the injury stemmed from an incident during his college football career.
Austin subsequently underwent the procedure, which was confirmed to be a total knee replacement.
In a new interview with Adrian Hernandez, Austin gave an update on his recovery, noting that while things are going well, he won’t be fully fit until the end of the year. Crucially, this could rule out getting physical at WrestleMania.
“Doing good, I’m about 13 weeks out. It really takes about a year for these things to fully heal up, so it’s still a little bit tender, but just got back in the car and started driving.
We’re about to run the Mint 400. Zach’s run it a couple of times but he’s broke so he hadn’t finished it. It’s going to be a rough race, probably the roughest race I’ve ever driven. If I can just keep my knee together, that’s my break leg. I’m just going to do the best I can.
The knee is feeling solid, I’m out of pain because it cut all of that arthritis out when they put that new joint in there. I’m in a good place, but I’ve got some work to do.”
Steve Austin Refuses To Rule Out WWE Return
In 2024, Austin gave several hints he could make an appearance at WrestleMania 41, given how close to the event will be held to where he lives. Although there’s been no official comment from either side, that doesn’t mean the speculation has slowed down.
During the same interview with Hernandez, Austin revealed he’ll actually be in Las Vegas the weekend of the event. However, speaking elsewhere, Steve Austin claimed he hasn’t spoken to anyone from WWE and isn’t focusing on the spectacular.
