Steve Austin Still Healing Up As WWE WrestleMania Rumours Escalate
Steve Austin won’t be back to full fitness for several months.
Back in October, Steve Austin revealed he was set to undergo surgery to fix a long-standing knee injury.
Throughout his career, Austin was dogged by a series of knee problems, with the issues going back to his years playing football. However, more than a decade spent punishing his body in the ring while keeping up an equally punishing schedule certainly didn’t help matters either.
The WWE legend later underwent the procedure, but his road back to full fitness is set to be a long one. After previously admitting it might take around a year, in a new interview with Zack Heydorn for The Takedown on SI, he said that at present, he’s operating at only 30%.
“I’m right at three months recovery. I can’t run on this knee. So, I would say I’m 25 to 30%. I’m just doing body weight squats and just just other stuff that my physical therapist told me.
The best thing about the knee is I’m out of pain. I was in so much pain, because there was so much arthritis and I was bone on bone, so immediately when they cut all that stuff out, you know, you’re dealing with the healing process, but it (sucks) being in pain for all those years.
I delayed it and I’m in a good place. I just gotta get healed up.”
Steve Austin Will Be Involved During WrestleMania Weekend
Meanwhile, it’s been announced that Steve Austin will be appearing at WWE World at the Las Vegas Convention Center on April 19 and 20. Tickets for the signing and photograph sessions are expected to be snapped up quickly when they go on sale on March 18.
Despite his recovery from surgery, the appearance has only added to speculation that Austin could be involved in WrestleMania in some capacity.
During a different interview, Steve Austin admitted “anything could happen” when it comes to a potential appearance at WrestleMania 41. However, he confirmed that he hasn’t been contacted by anyone in WWE and isn’t focusing on the event.
