Emotional Stephanie Vaquer Makes Personal Statement After WWE Title Win
Stephanie Vaquer became the Women’s World Champion at Wrestlepalooza.
Vaquer and Iyo Sky battled for the vacant title after Naomi relinquished it on the August 18 episode of WWE RAW due to pregnancy.
As a result, Naomi and Vaquer’s initially scheduled match at Clash in Paris PLE was called off.
Ultimately, it was decided that the 32-year-old would square off against the Japanese star on September 20.
The match was one of the best of the evening, with both wrestlers switching between grapples and high-flying moves to gain the advantage over the other.
In the closing minutes of the match, Sky went for her Over the Moonsault finisher but Stephanie Vaquer got her legs up. ‘La Primera’ immediately climbed to the top rope and hit a Spiral Tap splash for the pin.
After the match, Vaquer celebrated the victory with her father, who had flown in from Chile.
Stephanie Vaquer Discusses Her Wrestlepalooza Victory
Wrestlepalooza was a monumental event for WWE as the first premium live event to stream on ESPN in the United States.
Stephanie Vaquer spoke to Peter Rosenberg following her victory over Iyo Sky, stating that winning the Women’s Championship was her dream. She also revealed that it was her father’s birthday, making the moment even more special.
This is the dream of my life. I dream with this every day the last 15 years. So for me, my big dream with my dad, first time seeing me live in my match, make history today. First time he see a match show. Wrestling, yes. Ever. First time ever. Yeah, and his birthday.
During the Wrestlepalooza post-show, WWE CCO Triple H revealed that Stephanie Vaquer had been sick for a while, resulting in inconsistent appearances for her.
