Controversial Wrestling Star Always Hopeful Of WWE Hall Of Fame Induction
A multi-time World Champion remains hopeful they’ll be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
With WrestleMania just around the corner, the topic of the WWE Hall of Fame is as hot as ever.
Back in January, it was announced that Triple H would be headlining the class of 2025, and it’s since been confirmed he’ll be joined by Michelle McCool. The induction for The Game will actually be his second after he joined D-X in the Hall of Fame in 2019.
One of the most notable absentees in the Hall of Fame is Lex Luger. Although he never won the WWE Championship, he captured WCW’s top prize three times and was a huge star throughout the late 1980s and 1990s.
During a new interview with Chris Van Vliet, Luger admitted he’d love to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame but remains content if it never happens.
“Well, people say that good things come to those who wait. Always hopeful. If not, I still feel I had a great career. There’s a lot of deserving guys other than me who still aren’t in as well. So, yeah, it would be a huge honor though — if and when it happens.”
The veteran said he’s unsure why he hasn’t been inducted as yet but mentioned that he’s not alone in not being given the nod.
“You know, I don’t know what criteria they do, because there’s a lot of other guys too that should have been in,” he said. “So I don’t know if it was me personally or anything with Vince [McMahon] at all. I’m not sure about that. Only they can answer that.”
While looking more closely at his relationship with WWE, Luger said he felt the company wanted to make sure he’d turned his life around before working with him again. The star has been under a Legends contract for around ten years.
“I think they waited and saw — I think they observed that I was a different guy now. And I felt that they learned to maybe trust who I was, that this wasn’t some temporary thing, that this is the new Lex and this is the direction he’s headed with his life, so I’m thankful. They’ve been a real blessing in every way, including financially. You know, they gave me new merch out and [send what] the guys call ‘mailbox money.’
Ex-WWE Star Lex Luger Discusses Death Of Miss Elizabeth
Following the closure of WCW in 2001, Lex Luger was one of the many big names who didn’t make their way to WWE. During this period, Luger became heavily involved with alcohol and drugs, and by his own admission, his life went off the rails.
On May 1, 2003, Miss Elizabeth, who was Luger’s girlfriend at the time, passed away at age 42. Their relationship was notoriously volatile and shrouded by allegations of domestic violence as well as alcohol and drug abuse.
Although Elizabeth’s death was ruled accidental and due to “acute toxicity,” some fans still hold Luger responsible.
While speaking to Van Vliet, Lex Luger remained adamant he didn’t kill Miss Elizabeth but explained that he understands why fans feel the way they do.
Luger added that following Elizabeth’s passing, he fell into an even deeper depression that only increased his already dangerous alcohol and drug use. After finding himself “drowning in darkness” at the bottom of a “deep and dark hole,” Luger became a born-again Christian and eventually turned his life around.
