“So Frustrating” – Jake Roberts Talks AEW Booking

Jake Roberts AEW

WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts has discussed his opinion on AEW’s booking of his on-screen charge, the monstrous Lance Archer.

Jake Roberts came to AEW with his sights set on then company EVP Cody Rhodes, cutting a memorable promo on The American Nightmare, promising him he had an ally that was going to take Rhodes out. The next week that ally was revealed to be former IMPACT and New Japan Pro Wrestling star, Lance Archer.

Archer made it to the finals of the tournament to crown the first-ever TNT Champion at Double Or Nothing in 2020 but was defeated by his rival Cody Rhodes, denying him that accolade.

Despite two cracks at the AEW World Title – most recently against Adam Page in February 2022 – Lance Archer is yet to win any form of AEW gold. The only title he has won during his time in the company was the IWGP United States Championship he defeated Jon Moxley for at 2021’s Fight For The Fallen.

Speaking on his DDP Snake Pit podcast, Archer’s manager Jake Roberts admitted he’s frustrated to see Archer not breaking through to greater heights despite his obvious qualities:

“It is so frustrating for me to see Lance in the spot that he is in. He’s such a phenomenal athlete, he’s in such great shape, he’s got an unbelievable look. The only thing Lance doesn’t do really well is talk and that’s why they brought me.”
