Shocking Scrapped Plans For SmackDown Star To Win WWE Title
The Miz is a two-time WWE Champion, his second reign coming in 2021.
However, the 44-year-old star revealed that he would have been a two-time champion a decade prior to that had it not been for the plan being scrapped.
The Miz won his first world title during the November 22, 2010, RAW taping, wherein he cashed in the Money in the Bank contract on Randy Orton. His reign lasted 160 days when Cena at won the triple threat match at the 2011 Extreme Rules.
During a recent appearance on Bussin’ With The Boys, he claimed that his second stint as the champion was to start after the 2011 Money in the Bank, where Punk left WWE after defeating John Cena for the world title.
CM Punk left the show and he took the title with him. They made up a ‘paper champion’ or whatever. They brought a championship and said, ‘He’s leaving the show. He’s gone.’ They put the title in a refrigerator; that was the big meme. They were going to have a tournament. I went up against Rey Mysterio. I was going to beat Rey Mysterio and then beat John Cena, so I would be the champion.
They switched it because usually we like babyface vs. heel. Bad guy vs. good guy. In this instance, it would have been babyface vs. babyface. ‘You need bad guy vs. good guy.’ I was the bad guy, but then, it was two huge monumental babyfaces that are Rey Mysterio and John Cena. Let them go at it. There was a moment there where I would have been a (two-time) champion. [H/T: Fightful]
The Miz Seemingly Kickstarts A New Feud At WWE NXT Homecoming
While the Miz did not have a scheduled wrestling match at NXT Homecoming, he did make his presence felt by causing an interference.
TNA Champion Trick Williams and The Miz’s mentee Carmelo Hayes faced #DIY in a tag team match.
Just when the referee had his back turned to Johnny Gargano, the former WWE Champion hit the Skull-Crushing Finale on him outside the ring, neutralizing him.
Hayes followed it up with his Nothing But Net finisher for the win.
It is safe to assume that both pairs being on SmackDown will kickstart a feud in the coming weeks.
