Shock NXT Championship Made For Battleground
There was a major surprise on NXT as a huge title match was made official for Battleground on May 25.
The May 6 edition of NXT saw a huge 25-man battle royal take place with the winner claiming an NXT Championship match at Battleground against Oba Femi.
There was one surprise in the bout before it even took place as former WWE star Elias – now using his TNA name of Elijah – made his return to the company. Elijah managed to eliminate Trick Williams during the match after Williams was distracted by TNA World Champion Joe Hendry.
Oba Femi Faces Unlikely NXT Challenger
Ultimately, it was not a match for the favourites, however, as the No Quarter Catch Crew’s Myles Osborne picked up the win. Later in the show, Charlie Dempsey tried to assert his authority as leader of the NQCC to claim the title shot but Osborne wasn’t having it and instead Dempsey will face Oba Femi in a non-title match on the May 13 edition of NXT. Osborne’s Battleground match will be his first televised singles title shot in the company.
Also on the show, Jordynne Grace defeated Giulia to become the number one contender for Stephanie Vaquer’s NXT Women’s Championship, with that match also taking place at Battleground. Battleground will also see Joe Hendry defend his TNA World Championship against Trick Williams.
