Shelton Benjamin Surprised By Familiar Faces In AEW

Shelton Benjamin

Shelton Benjamin has recognized a lot of people who work for AEW due to their familiarity from their WWE days.

For most of the last 20 years, Shelton Benjamin was known as a WWE guy due to his two runs with the company. In September 2023, Benjamin was released by WWE and over a year later he’s part of the AEW roster.

The good thing for Benjamin is that he didn’t come to AEW alone because his past WWE association with MVP has continued in AEW as well.

Since making his AEW debut, Shelton Benjamin has picked up some big wins against the likes of Sammy Guevara on Dynamite and also Lio Rush as well.

In an interview with TV Insider, the veteran Benjamin made it clear he is coming after the AEW World Title.

“I want a world title, period. That is one of the things I got in the business for. There was this article saying I was just happy to be on the roster. Where is this BS coming from? From the day I stepped into pro wrestling, I wanted to be a world heavyweight champion.”

“Coming to AEW, that goal has not changed. I think everyone should strive for that. I think the day I retire that is something I am going to want. If I get the opportunity, I am going to make the most of it.”

Shelton Benjamin Is Enjoying His Time In AEW

As the discussion continued, Benjamin spoke about seeing people that he used to know in WWE, who now work for AEW.

“The first thing that surprised me was all these familiar faces that I didn’t realize were actually in AEW. I’m talking about writing, production and other talent I didn’t know were in AEW.”

“There was almost a sigh of relief because there was so much familiarity there. I was actually surprised by how comfortable I felt and how welcoming everyone was, top to bottom. So far it has been great. Everyone has been really helpful and respectful. So far it has been a great experience. I hope to continue that.”

Next up for Benjamin in AEW is a matchup against the former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland on the “Fright Night” edition of Dynamite in Cleveland one night before Halloween.
