Shayna Baszler And Ronda Rousey Were “Handcuffed” During SummerSlam Match
Shayna Baszler has revealed her frustration at original plans for a SummerSlam 2023 bout with ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey not coming to fruition.
The long-term friends and former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions split after Baszler shockingly turned on Rousey during a title defence against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez at Money In The Bank in London on 1st July.
The pair were scheduled to settle their differences in an MMA rules match at SummerSlam on 5th August in a bout that proved to be Rousey’s last in WWE.
Baszler sealed victory over her former best friend after appyling a Kirifuda Clutch that forced Rousey to pass out. Despite this landmark victory, the Sioux Falls, South Dakota native wasn’t entirely happy with the match up.
In a recent interview with Fightful, Baszler explained that the pairs original plans for the match were hampered by the choice of Ford Field in Detroit as a venue:
“I won’t lie, the idea we had, we were a little bit handcuffed just based on the venue.
There was no tron, so we knew the people in-house were going to have trouble maybe understanding some of the stuff because you need a camera and a close up of that. We couldn’t get a cage or a fight pit in there because of the rigging in a dome situation is totally different. There was a lot.
We tried to work out some other things, it just didn’t work out. We did the best we could with what we had. I’m proud of it.”
Ronda Rousey Has No Desire To Return To WWE
Following her defeat to Baszler at SummerSlam, Rousey departed the company has has since made numerous appearances at independent shows.
‘The baddest woman on the planet’ has recently released a controversial tell-all autobiography in which she has panned multiple current and former WWE Executives and revealed she has no plans to return to WWE.
