Shayna Baszler Cries On Camera Recalling Touching WWE Moment

Shayna Baszler admits she was in tears during one of the biggest matches of her WWE career.

During her 8-year run in WWE, from 2017 in NXT until her release in May 2025, Shayna Baszler was known as one of the toughest women to ever step into a WWE ring.

While Baszler never held the WWE Women’s Title on the main roster, she is a former 2-time NXT Women’s Champion and a 3-time Women’s Tag Team Champion, who held those titles with Nia Jax twice and Ronda Rousey once.

Fans don’t think of Shayna Baszler as somebody who cried on camera about emotional moments, but it happens sometimes, even to somebody as tough as Baszler.

WrestleMania 37 in 2021 took place in Tampa Bay, and it was the first WWE event in over a year with fans in attendance. The COVID-19 pandemic shut fans out from shows from mid-March 2020, but by April 2021, the company was able to have some fans in Raymond James Stadium that night. Since WWE talent was performing in front of no fans for a year before that, it was a big night for them to be in front of fans again.

At WrestleMania 37 Sunday, Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax successfully defend their WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles against Natalya and Nia Jax. When recalling her WrestleMania history in an interview with Insight’s Chris Van Vliet, Baszler spoke about how much that tag team match meant to her, even though it wasn’t a huge singles title match as she had one year earlier with Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36.

“I think the tag match I had, me and Nia against Tamina and Nattie. And I know it wasn’t like super feature big-time main event title like Becky was meant to be.

But I think it was emotional for all of us because it was like the first time back in front of an audience, even though it was only, like, 50-25%, maybe.”

“Why Is It Making Me Emotional?” – Shayna Baszler

To begin WrestleMania 37 Saturday, former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and the superstars of the company were on stage. As Vince did a promo about how happy the company was to perform in front of the fans again, fans also chanted “Welcome Back” to the wrestlers.

Even though Shayna Baszler is known as a badass, she couldn’t help but feel emotional when she heard the fans do that.

“There’s clips of us on stage for the intro, and we’re all kind of like crying because hearing the crowd, I’m getting emotional now.

F**k, why is it making me emotional? Hearing the crowd say, ‘Welcome back,’ f**k.”

In the same interview, Shayna Baszler also recalled how WWE had planned to put the Raw Women’s Title on her after her WrestleMania 36 loss to Becky Lynch, but the plans changed, and Baszler never got to be a singles champion on the main roster.
