Ahead of WrestleMania weekend, ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ sat down with NXT Superstar Carmelo Hayes to watch his legendary bout with Angle for the WWE YouTube channel and explained the pressure that came with being pitted against another all-time great on the ‘grandest stage of them all’:
“I will say that this was one that I felt a bunch of pressure in, you know what I mean? First time, Kurt and I, WrestleMania. This one on paper, this has got to be fantastic.
Believe it or not, both he and I felt the pressure of that, and you know you always want to deliver on the hype.”
Shawn Michaels Feels Kurt Angle Deserves More Credit For In-Ring Work
The sit down viewing with Hayes came ahead of the well-received NXT Stand And Deliver show that saw the former NXT Champion fall to defeat at the hands of long-term rival Trick Williams in the evening’s main event.
The fascinating video also saw ‘HBK’ sit down with Williams and Roxanne Perez to watch his WrestleMania 23 battle with John Cena, as well as talking through his WrestleMania 11 victory over Diesel.
Michaels was full of praise for the Olympic Gold Medallist during the watchalong and shared his belief that Angle did not receive enough recognition for his in-ring work:
“Probably a guy that doesn’t get as much credit as he should for attention to detail … he looks like a scary son of a gun when he wants to go.
That’s where I guess I always say with you guys, you got to go out there and not be afraid to just don’t have any inhibitions inside you, just go out there trying to make each other’s stuff look the best.”
