Shawn Michaels Personally Pushed To Sign NXT Star

Shawn Michaels was personally responsible for WWE signing an NXT star.

After signing with WWE in November 2023, aged just 19, Je’Von Evans has established himself as one of the most exciting stars in the company.

The star’s freakish athleticism has seen him rise through the NXT ranks at a remarkable rate, already challenging for the NXT Championship, and more recently, the United States Championship on SmackDown.

However, according to Evans in a new interview with No-Contest Wrestling, his rapid rise nearly didn’t happen at all. The star revealed that he only ended up signing with WWE after Shawn Michaels personally asked for him to be given a deal.

Until Michaels stepped in, WWE coaches were content to let Evans walk away, feeling he was too small and too young at that present moment.

“I feel like he was the person that really looked out for me because during my tryout, apparently I wasn’t gonna get signed but Shawn saw something in me. Of course then I was too young, I was smaller at the time, so there were a lot of people that wanted me to get older and get bigger but Shawn was like, ‘No, just trust me.’ And everybody trusted him, and now that’s one of my go-to people. So you gotta thank Shawn, for sure.“

Shawn Michaels Named Best Ever

Meanwhile, Kurt Angle has named Shawn Michaels as the greatest of all time. During a recent interview, Angle tipped his hat to the likes of Eddie Guerrero, The Undertaker, The Rock, and Steve Austin before settling on Michaels.

The WWE Hall of Famer said that Michaels had everything required to be a top performer, both in-ring and as a character.

Michaels and Angle wrestled several times during their careers, including for the World Championship, but their most famous match came at WrestleMania 21, where Angle got the win.
