Shawn Michaels Makes Big NXT Claim
Shawn Michaels thinks there’s nothing better than NXT.
Despite being in a constant state of evolution, and WWE’s developmental brand, NXT is also expected to pull in the ratings and remain an entertaining TV show in its own right.
In 2025, that balancing act is being overseen by Shawn Michaels, who took over from Triple H in September 2021.
In a new interview with Justin Barrasso of Undisputed, Michaels said he doesn’t think there’s a better weekly wrestling show out there than NXT.
“I’d be lying if I didn’t think we have the best two-hour show on television. The most exciting.
The partnership with The CW is huge. They’ve been fantastic. We’ve had collaborations like NOAH, TNA, and AAA, but all our success comes down to the athletes that walk through the doors of the Performance Center every day in Orlando. It’s a testament to all the work that our coaches and our creative team and the entire production team in NXT.”
Interestingly, it’s been reported that the CW Network could be the new home of TNA Impact, with WWE said to be pushing for the show to go up against AEW Dynamite.
Shawn Michaels Recovering From Surgery
On a recent episode of his podcast, Kevin Nash revealed that Shawn Michaels is recovering from back surgery. According to Nash, the procedure was linked to a surgery Michaels underwent in the late 90s after suffering a serious back injury.
At the time, Michaels had a series of steel rods put into his back to repair the damage suffered during a casket match with The Undertaker at the 1998 Royal Rumble. As a result of the injury, Michaels retired before eventually returning in 2002.
As noted by Nash, those steel rods had become twisted, which meant they had to be removed.
In addition, Michaels is said to need double knee replacement surgery.
