Shane McMahon Shockingly Returns To WWE Active Roster
Shane McMahon is back on the WWE active roster list, sparking speculation about what this could mean.
It was around 1998 when Shane McMahon started as a regular character on WWE television. Earlier in the decade, Shane actually worked for WWE as a referee named “Shane Stevens,” but it was never acknowledged at that time that he was Vince McMahon’s son.
Vince and Linda McMahon’s oldest child started out as an announcer on Sunday Night Heat, then he turned heel with his dad at Survivor Series 1998 in a moment that helped The Rock become the youngest WWE Champion ever at the time.
As the years passed, Shane wrestled more frequently and became a fixture on WWE television throughout the 2000s.
When WWE dealt with injuries in early 2016, Vince brought his son Shane back into the mix, and he faced The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32, which led to a memorable Hell in a Cell match that saw Shane take one of the biggest bumps of his career through the commentary table.
For the next few years, Shane was a regular on WWE TV, but then the appearances stopped.
In the 2022 Royal Rumble, Shane McMahon played a significant role in the match, but his ideas apparently upset many people, so his father sent him home afterward.
A year later, at WrestleMania 39 in 2023, Shane McMahon reappeared again to face The Miz in an impromptu match, but Shane tore his quadriceps in his leg and couldn’t wrestle. Snoop Dogg improvised and beat Miz in a “match” instead.
Shane McMahon Appears On Active WWE Roster
While the name of Shane McMahon likely isn’t thought of by WWE fans that often these days, Shane-O-Mac does appear on the WWE website, featuring active superstars. As you can see below, Shane appears in alphabetical order after Seth Rollins and before NXT’s Shawn Spears.
Stephanie McMahon, who is Shane’s younger sister, will be inducted into the 2026 WWE Hall of Fame. Meanwhile, Shane’s son Declan recently posted on social media that Shane McMahon should be in the WWE Hall of Fame, too. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
For now, Shane McMahon is listed as an active superstar on WWE’s roster, and we’ll have to keep watching WWE television to see if it means anything or if it’s just an error on WWE’s part.
