Seth Rollins Won’t Wrestle At SummerSlam, Handed Interesting Role
Seth Rollins will have an interesting job at SummerSlam.
At Money In The Bank, Drew McIntyre cashed in his newly won Money In The Bank contract during the World Heavyweight Title match between Damian Priest and Seth Rollins. However, determined to make sure McIntyre wasn’t successful, CM Punk attacked him with a steel chair.
This paved the way for Priest to retain the gold. Although Punk got what he wanted, he also incurred the wrath of Rollins who he had also prevented from winning.
It’s long been rumoured that CM Punk will meet Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam, and it’s been reported by Dave Meltzer that the match could have a special guest referee.
WWE Has Interesting Plans For Seth Rollins
A follow-up report from Wrestle Votes has now revealed that Rollins will be added to Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk as the special guest referee.
Source states the current plans have Seth Rollins as the special guest referee for the CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre SummerSlam match. Creative is proceeding under the assumption that Punk will be ready for action, with the anticipated clearance date set for the Monday beforehand, 7/29.
As many have pointed out the storyline and match will pay homage to the main event of SummerSlam 1997. On that occasion, Shawn Michaels served as the special guest referee for the WWF Title match between The Undertaker and Bret Hart.
When all was said and done, Hart emerged with the World Title after spitting in Michaels’ face. In retaliation, Michaels tried to hit Hart with a steel chair but hit Undertaker. An irate Michaels was forced to count the pin thanks to a pre-match stipulation that stated if he favoured one wrestler over the other he’d be banned from competing in the United States.
