Seth Rollins Reveals How Far He Went To Fool WWE Fans With Injury
Seth Rollins has revealed that even members of his family had interesting reactions to his fake knee injury.
The main event of WWE SummerSlam Saturday saw CM Punk win the World Heavyweight Championship from Gunther in a grueling match that was fitting for a championship battle. Unfortunately for Punk, Seth Rollins revealed that he wasn’t injured after all, and Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase on his rival Punk to win the World Heavyweight Title.
It had been reported three weeks earlier that Rollins may not have been injured at all, even though he sold a right knee injury during a Saturday Night’s Main Event match against LA Knight. That led to some predictions that Rollins would cash in Money in the Bank at SummerSlam as a surprise, and that’s what he did as a surprise as Rollins took the World Heavyweight Title from his greatest rival, CM Punk.
During an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show, Seth Rollins spoke about just how far his deception went, including how his wife, Becky Lynch, and their daughter, Roux, reacted to it.
“My wife is an unwilling participant in this ruse. She was very upset at me for making me lie to all of her friends and family for the better part of three weeks. She was very upset. I said, ‘Honey, just trust me, the payoff will be great.’
My daughter thought it was a game. She thought it was a fun little game. I told her, ‘Daddy has a pretend boo-boo for the next few weeks. Let’s keep that on the low.’ First thing she did was go and tell her preschool teacher, Ms. Joy, immediately. Then, she had to tell me she told Ms. Joy and gave me the classic, ‘Na-na-boo-boo, I told Ms. Joy.’ I’m like, ‘How am I supposed to live my life? How am I supposed to get this through. Focus. Kayfabe, young Roux, kayfabe.’
Here we are, three weeks later, nobody went to the dirt sheets or the news. Thank you, Roux, thank you, Ms. Joy. It was an honor and a pleasure. The payoff was more beautiful than I could have expected.
Limping around on those crutches for three weeks was excruciating. That was painful. I went to the gym, I took my daughter to the beach for ice cream, I dropped her off at the preschool, I went for a nice steak dinner with my wife, Bianca Belair, and Montez Ford with the crutches. I did it all on crutches. It was excruciating.
The crutches alone were painful. I thought I was going to get a shoulder injury, a real one, get surgery and go to Birmingham legit. I was getting irritable, my wife was putting up with me being grumpy. It was a tough one, but we pulled through and did it. For the greater good.”
It’s worth noting that some of those comments that Rollins made were done while he was laughing, so he could be stretching the truth a bit.
Seth Rollins’ Faction Will Finally Get A Name
The new World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, will appear on Raw, where he will likely be bragging about his ruse that saw him leave SummerSlam with the title that CM Punk won from Gunther.
Joining Rollins on Raw will be the members of his stable, including Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and the WWE Hall of Famer, “The Oracle” Paul Heyman.
That group has been together for nearly four months, and they still don’t have a name. That is about to change because WWE trademarked the term “The Vision” and that is expected to be the group name moving forward.
Since Seth Rollins is known as The Visionary, which is one of his nicknames, it is fitting that he would be leading a group known simply as The Vision.
