Seth Rollins Was Given WWE Name By Hall Of Famer
A legendary figure in pro wrestling came up with the name for Seth Rollins, who will go down as one of the greatest WWE superstars ever.
Every wrestler has to start somewhere. Seth Rollins was known as Tyler Black in the Indies and ROH before WWE signed him in 2010 as a guy in his mid-20s with a lot of potential.
Rollins was part of the WWE developmental system when it was called Florida Championship Wrestling. Two years after he signed, Rollins would be the first NXT Champion for the brand run by WWE Hall of Famers Triple H, Dusty Rhodes, and others.
During an appearance on the Chicago Bears podcast, Rollins revealed that the late, great Dusty Rhodes came up with the name, and of course, Dusty loved it.
“I had a little bit of say. My name, Seth Rollins, was given to me, bestowed upon me. I made a list. I made like two lists, first names and last names, when I first got hired by WWE, right? They want to own your brand. They want to be partners in owning your brand.
So, look, when I was on the independents wrestling before WWE, I was Tyler Black. I decided that all by myself. When I got to WWE, they wanted to own me. Like I said, I own the brand, so I made two lists.
The late, great American Dream, Dusty Rhodes, was the one who gave me my name. ‘Seth Rollins, baby.’ He had a list. If you don’t know Dusty, he had a lisp. He’s a southern boy with a lisp. ‘I see it on the marquee now. I see it. It’s Seth Rollins, baby. Main event of WrestleMania. I love it. I love it, baby.'”
CM Punk Costs Seth Rollins In World Heavyweight Title Match On Raw
Present-day Seth Rollins is back in a heel role on the Raw brand with Bron Breakker and Paul Heyman by his side. The unnamed group has destroyed CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and Sami Zayn in recent weeks.
In the main event of WWE Monday Night Raw on May 5th, Seth Rollins competed against Jey Uso for the World Heavyweight Title that Rollins held two years ago as the first champion.
After Rollins hit The Stomp and went for a cover, CM Punk went down to the ring, took out Breakker with a chair and attacked Rollins with the chair. It ended up being a disqualification finish, so there was no title change.
Following the match, Punk beat up Rollins with a few chair shots to the body. Rollins ran away. When Breakker tried an attack, Punk fended him off with the chair as well. Punk stood tall in the ring with a steel chair, along with Sami Zayn and Jey Uso, while Rollins, Breakker, and Heyman were in the aisle.
None of the wrestlers mentioned are in a match at WWE Backlash on May 10th, but they will likely have a big showdown soon.
