Seth Rollins Reveals Why “Freakin” Is Part Of His WWE Name
Seth Rollins has explained why the word “Freakin” is part of his official WWE name.
For the past 12 years, Seth Rollins has become one of the biggest WWE superstars of all time who will go down in history as an all-time great and future Hall of Famer. Rollins has done it all and won it all in WWE.
In late 2021, there was a change to the way that Rollins was presented because he officially became Seth “Freakin” Rollins whenever he was introduced. They also added a catchy theme song that leads to WWE fans singing along every time they see him. Sometimes they even sing the song when it’s even playing in the arena.
During an interview in October 2022, Seth Rollins admitted he didn’t know how long “Freakin” would be part of his name, but over two years later it’s still there.
Regarding whose idea it was to add “Freakin” to Seth’s name full-time, Rollins credits the old man (former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon) for it, as he explained in an interview with Chris Van Vliet.
“I give that credit to the old man. The middle name was his idea back in the day. I don’t remember why. I don’t remember how it came about. I think he was just bored with Seth Rollins and he was like ah, you’ll be Seth Freakin Rollins again. Okay, cool. Sold a lot of T shirts when we did it, so whatever.”
Seth Rollins Suggested An Idea For How WWE Uses “Freakin”
As he continued, Rollins spoke about how people can use “Freakin” when saying his name, but they could still call him just “Seth Rollins” as well.
“The thing that killed me was when we first did it, when we first brought the freakin’ back in. Because it was just like The Monday Night Messiah Seth Rollins or whatever, for a while. And then there was the Drip God, which was never my idea. I didn’t like that nickname at all. I tried to push The Visionary on him, and he didn’t get that character at all, and then added freakin’ in there at some point. But then everybody had to say freakin’ every single time they mentioned my name on commentary, anywhere.
The first thing I did when I had the opportunity was let’s just pull back on that, how about I just say it? If someone’s introducing me in a grandiose manner, they can say it. But if they’re just talking about me they could just say Seth Rollins, it’s okay. You don’t have to say ‘The Tribal Chief’ Roman Reigns all the time. No one said ‘The Hitman’ Bret Hart all the time.”
In the main event of WWE Monday Night Raw’s Netflix premiere, Rollins lost to CM Punk in a match that headlined what was billed as the biggest episode of Raw of all time.
