Seth Rollins Claims He “Fooled The World” Leading To WWE World Title Win
Seth Rollins is a WWE World Champion again after revealing he wasn’t injured after all.
During the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event episode on July 12th, the Money in the Bank briefcase holder Seth Rollins faced LA Knight in a grudge match. Rollins was on the attack with a senton splash, followed by a springboard moonsault, where Rollins landed on his feet because Knight moved out of the way.
After landing the moonsault, Rollins collapsed to the mat and sold the idea that he had a right knee injury. A legit WWE doctor was even used to check on Rollins. After sitting on the mat for nearly a minute, Rollins got back up, Knight kicked him, and Knight hit a BFT for the pinfall win.
Following the Saturday Night’s Main Event match with Knight, Rollins was kept off WWE television to sell the idea that he had a legitimate knee injury. His group, consisting of Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Paul Heyman, appeared on television, but they were without Rollins.
In the days following the Rollins “injury” on Saturday Night’s Main Event, reports from the Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez and others suggested that Rollins wasn’t as injured as WWE initially claimed.
That led to weeks of wrestling fans debating whether Rollins was genuinely injured or if it was all part of a storyline to keep him off TV, before he made a shocking return and cashed in Money in the Bank.
The knee injury ended up being a ruse because Rollins returned after CM Punk beat Gunther for the World Heavyweight Title in the main event of SummerSlam Saturday. Rollins dropped the crutches, took off his knee brace, went into the ring, and beat up Punk with the Money in the Bank briefcase. Rollins cashed in Money in the Bank, the bell rang and Rollins hit The Stomp for the pinfall win to become the World Heavyweight Champion while his biggest rival, Punk, was left devastated in the ring.
“I Fooled The Entire World” – Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins was also the guest host on the popular sports talk show “The Rich Eisen Show,” hosted by the NFL Network’s Rich Eisen. Since Rich was away, Rollins filled in for a few episodes and pushed the idea that he was genuinely hurt. Rollins even had crutches with him.
The WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins appeared as a guest on the August 4th edition of the Rich Eisen Show where he promoted Raw and also bragged about his lying ways.
“Well, look, Rich, as much as I love you. And I love you. I love all of you guys. I cannot divulge my secrets right now. Tonight, tune in to Netflix. We will be live 8 p.m. Eastern/5 Pacific. Live globally. You can hear all of it, but I can’t get into too much here.
I just wanted to come by and extend my gratitude to you guys and to let you know how much I appreciate you giving me a platform to fool the entire world, really. Fooled the entire world. There’s no other way to slice it. I fooled the entire world.”
Those comments by Rollins are likely in character somewhat since he didn’t really “fool the entire world” since many people predicted he was faking the knee injury and would cash in Money in the Bank, whic he did.
