Seth Rollins Names Career Moment That Changed The Industry
Seth Rollins believes the break up of The Shield was a catalyst for the current popularity of wrestling.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion made his main roster debut alongside Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose at Survivor Series 2012, helping CM Punk retain his WWE Championship against John Cena and Ryback in a triple threat match.
The trio were initially pitched as a group of mercenaries vowing to avenge perceived injustices in WWE and soon found success both individually and as a team, including a resounding victory over Randy Orton, Sheamus and Big Show at WrestleMania 29.
The group continued to dominate WWE, ultimately feuding with The Authority whilst scoring another huge Premium Live Event victory in New Orleans at WrestleMania 30. They would go on to defeat the reformed Evolution at Payback 2014 before Rollins shocked the wrestling world by betraying his teammates on the 2nd June 2014 edition of Raw, destroying his former friends with a vicious steel chair attack.
Rollins sees the moment as a huge one in the history of the industry. Speaking during a recent appearance on ‘The Pivot’ podcast, the Davenport, Iowa native shared his belief that the implosion of The Shield created a ripple effect that played a pivotal role in wresting’s return to popularity:
“To me, that was an extremely important moment in our industry. We did that in 2014, business was not great. We were not doing great. Television ratings were [going down] as television was going to streaming. Live events not doing good. Talent roster is not doing great.
We come in 2012 and want to make a huge impact. We do great as The Shield. It’s three guys in one act. You got to have three acts. We break The Shield up. That’s a huge moment. That moment took all three of us in separate trajectories that have now…the butterfly effect of that moment has changed and catapulted the business ten years later to a place, financially, it’s as big as it’s ever been.
We’re doing things in our industry that, I don’t think, if we take that moment away and keep The Shield together longer or doing something differently and we don’t have that moment, the butterfly effect isn’t the same and I don’t know that the business, where it’s at with myself, Roman, Jon, and the business as a whole is where it is today without that moment.”
Seth Rollins Dismisses Fan Theory
Despite recent speculation, Seth Rollins has denied that he is featured in a trailer for the upcoming motion picture ‘Captain America – Brave New World’.
Rollins took to social media to refute the claim having also recently explained that he sees his future backstage in WWE rather than in Hollywood.
