WWE star Randy Orton had huge plans for this year’s WrestleMania before things took a wild turn. The Viper was scheduled for a one-on-one match with former tag team partner Kevin Owens, but an untimely injury to Owens changed things.

Following Owens’ injury, the Viper announced that he would have an open challenge at WrestleMania 41, which led to the fans speculating on his opponent. He ultimately ended up wrestling then-TNA star Joe Hendry in a short and entertaining match.

However, it was recently revealed that an idea was pitched to have Orton wrestle someone who wouldn’t make their WWE return till after WrestleMania 41.

Aleister Black vs Randy Orton was pitched for WWE WrestleMania

Aleister Black made her return to WWE on the SmackDown after the Show of Shows, but he revealed during a recent interview with WrestleRant that there were plans to have him make a blockbuster return on the grandest stage of them all.

However, Black stated that the match never got past the ideation stage, and the plan was quickly dropped as the creative team didn’t want him to lose his first match back, that too on such a huge platform.

“So they were toying with a bunch of ideas. I know at one point there was this conversation about like, ‘Oh maybe he’s coming back to wrestle Randy Orton at Mania,’ and that was an actual thing that was discussed. It was counter-argued quickly because they were like, ‘Well, we don’t want him to lose coming back at WrestleMania. That doesn’t make any sense.” Black said.

Since making his return, Black has been a prominent feature on the blue brand and has recently been paired on-screen with his wife, Zelina Vega, marking an interesting point in his character.
