Saudi Arabia May Buy WWE In Staggering $20 Billion Deal
WWE had been owned by the McMahon family for generations till Vince McMahon stepped away from the promotion midway through 2022, owing to some legal disputes.
That move was the beginning of the end for the McMahon family’s ownership of the promotion. Following Vince’s exit, Triple H was made the Chief Content Officer, a role he still holds, and Nick Khan and Stephanie McMahon served as the co-CEOs.
This structure worked till 2023 before Stephanie McMahon’s resignation, following which the wheels were set in motion for the sale of the company. WWE was merged with the Endeavor Group, who hold the majority share, to become TKO Group Holdings. Now, it seems like the promotion might be going on sale once again in the near future.
WWE might be sold to Saudi Arabia
Since TKO took control of the company, many fans are unhappy with the changes they’ve made to the product due to the heavy debt incurred by the group, which has led to speculation of a potential sale of the company.
During an episode of the Coach and Bro show, Vince Russo and Jonathan Coachman discussed the possibility of a potential WWE sale, where Coachman claimed that a bid of around $20 billion should be enough.
“I think $15 billion is the number. I think they paid, what, seven or eight billion to Vince because they had to make the shareholders happy—that’s part of it. I think $15 to $20 billion would make everybody whole, and that would be a drop in the bucket for whatever fund they’re taking that money out of.” Coachman said.
While it’s still purely speculation, there have been apparent murmurs of the Saudi Arabia takeover not just by the fans and analysts, but also by the people backstage in WWE.
