Saraya Reveals Her Worst Promo Across WWE & AEW
Saraya details the worst promo of her wrestling career.
Paige joined WWE in 2011 after dominating the indie scene. She became the first NXT Women’s Champion in 2013 and shocked the world by dethroning AJ Lee for the Divas Championship in her main roster debut on April 7, 2014.
She held the title twice but suffered a serious neck injury in December 2017 during a house show, forcing her retirement from in-ring action at age 25. WWE kept her on contract in non-wrestling roles like SmackDown GM and manager until her deal expired naturally in July 2022, with no renewal under Triple H’s regime.
Saraya then debuted for AEW at Grand Slam on September 21, 2022. After she arrived at the company, she addressed the fans in a debut promo. However, she was clueless about her role in the company. Therefore, she couldn’t connect with the fans.
Saraya Was Clueless When She Joined AEW
Speaking to Daria Berenato (aka WWE’s Sonya Deville) on the Unwrapped podcast, Saraya revealed that when Tony Khan hired her, he didn’t reveal the job description. She had no idea about her character, which is why she couldn’t make her debut promo work. She even called it the “worst promo” of her career.
Oh, it was awful. It was so bad. It was the worst promo of my career. Oh my god. It was bad. I literally stopped halfway through the promo and went, “I’m so sorry, you guys. I’m really nervous.”
I just didn’t know what to say. And then I literally said revolution like five times in a row and tripped over my words, and I’m like,
“What the f**k am I talking about?” I came backstage, and people were just looking down like trying to avoid eye contact with me. (From 17:05)
Saraya departed from AEW in March 2025 despite her contract running until September. She felt out of place with no storylines and wanted to focus on podcasts and non-wrestling ventures.
In a recent interview, Saraya revealed that she’s reignited her passion for wrestling and will start training for her comeback in January 2026.
