Why Saraya Turned Down AEW Storyline

Saraya wasn’t interested in an AEW storyline pitched to her for a few reasons.

It was official in March when former AEW Women’s World Champion Saraya officially left the company.

After being unable to wrestle for nearly five years due to a serious neck injury, Saraya left WWE to end her run as Paige and signed with AEW in 2022. During that two-plus year run, Saraya wrestled against some of AEW’s best while working as a heel and a face. She was rarely used in the last few months of her time in the company, so it was time to move on.

While speaking on her Rulebreakers podcast, Saraya said no to an AEW storyline idea involving a romance angle with “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard. There was a story about Menard’s tag team partner Angelo Parker and Ruby Soho, who married Parker and had a child. However, Saraya wasn’t interested in a romance storyline.

“Daddy Magic, they wanted me to do a love story line with him, and I’ve managed to go on my whole career without doing a love storyline, and I wasn’t gonna start.

They were like, ‘No, all he’s gonna do is kiss you.’ I had a boyfriend at the time, and I was just like, ‘I can’t do it, you guys. I just can’t do it.’ So I turned down that. There’s not really anything storyline-wise else I’ve turned down. It’s just like, if I have to kiss someone and I have a boyfriend, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.

I’ve never really had like them come up to me and be like, ‘What do you think of this? You want to kiss somebody today?’ I’ve never had that until I got to AEW. Then they were like, ‘Can you kiss Daddy Magic?’ I love Daddy Magic, good guy, but I just couldn’t do it. I couldn’t do it.”

Saraya Loved Her Time In AEW

After departing AEW, Saraya made it clear on X/Twitter that she enjoyed her time there.

It’s mutual! But I loved my time at AEW and I had such a blast with the girls there. It’ll hold a special place in my heart. Tony was a great, AEW was great. I feel so lucky to be apart of this family for a couple years. Here’s to 2025! Wtf am I gonna get myself into now

As for her future, there have been rumors that Saraya could return to WWE as Paige as she alluded to on social media, but it’s unknown if the company wants to bring her back.
