Saraya Names Thing She’d Change About AEW Run
Saraya had a different ending in mind.
On March 26, Saraya announced her departure from AEW, six months before her contract officially expired in September.
The star became All Elite in September 2022 after her 11-year run with WWE came to an end. Following her debut at Grand Slam, Saraya not only resumed her in-ring career after a five-year hiatus, but she won the Women’s Championship.
The star won the gold in front of a packed Wembley Stadium at All In 2023 before losing to Hikaru Shida on the October 10 edition of Dynamite. Shida then held the title for a little over a month before losing to Toni Storm at Full Gear.
Saraya Had A Different Plans For AEW Title Run
During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Saraya reflected on her run with the AEW Women’s Championship and revealed she had different plans for how to end it. The British star explained that she originally wanted to hold the title until Full Gear where she’d lose it to Storm instead of Shida.
She added that this is the only thing she wished she could have done differently.
“I wish I would have dropped it to Toni in California, which is something I really wanted to do. I thought it was a huge deal and she’s a growing a babyface, she was the biggest babyface in the company, even now. The only thing I wanted to be different was that one thing where I wanted to drop it, and I wanted to drop it to Toni. Either way, I’m glad it got to her. I’m not complaining,”
It’s since been reported that Saraya’s AEW exit caught many by surprise, even within the company. Only a “select few” were aware that the two sides would be ending their working relationship early, but the star’s management team remained adamant that the split was mutual.
Saraya has already revealed that should she return to WWE she will do so under her former “Paige” persona with her old theme music.
