Samoa Joe Adds Huge Stipulation To AEW Title Match
Samoa Joe has raised the stakes for his AEW World Championship match as he looks to get his hands on Jon Moxley.
At AEW Spring BreakThru, Jon Moxley replaced the injured PAC in the Death Riders team as the AEW World Champion partnered with Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta to defend the AEW Trios Title against The Opps – Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and HOOK. However, another spanner in the works was announced at the start of the show as commentary revealed HOOK had been taken out by the Death Riders and was unable to compete.
When The Opps came to the ring, however, they had their own suitable replacement as Powerhouse Hobbs joined Joe and Shibata.
In the end, Samoa Joe locked the Coquina Clutch in on Jon Moxley, making the AEW World Champion pass out with the referee stopping the match, and new AEW Trios Champions were crowned.
On the following episode of Collision, Jon Moxley issued a huge challenge to Samoa Joe, and on Dynamite in New Orleans, they came to blows again with Joe again catching Moxley in the Coquina Clutch. The AEW World Championship match between Moxley and Joe was made official for Beach Break on May 14.
Samoa Joe Wants Jon Moxley In A Cage
Now, on the April 30 edition of Dynamite, The Opps were in action with a quick win in a trios match. The Death Riders then struck, and the fight was on once again. Claudio Castagnoli took Katsuyori Shibata out with a Neutralizer on a steel chair.
Samoa Joe then took to the microphone, calling out Jon Moxley and saying their AEW World Title match should be fought inside a steel cage. That stipulation was later made official on the show.
