Samoa Joe Reveals “Weird Gentlemen’s Agreement” With Brock Lesnar

The current WWE NXT Champion Samoa Joe has commented on what he calls a “weird, unspoken gentleman’s agreement” that he has with WWE legend “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar.

Joe first faced off with Lesnar in a singles match at Great Balls Of Fire in July 2017 with Lesnar retaining his WWE Universal Championship in a hard-hitting barnstormer of a contest. The two men shared the ring at live events in the run-up to the Fatal 4-Way match at SummerSlam 2017 that saw Joe, Braun Strowman, and Roman Reigns all challenge Lesnar for the title. The SummerSlam match was terrific especially.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Samoa Joe discussed his feelings on stepping in the ring with Brock Lesnar and why he feels the two of them meshed well:

“I think it really comes down to the simple fact that, when Brock shows up for fight night, he wants to be in a scrap. He wants to go out there and he wants someone who is going to smash someone in the face, and he wants to smash somebody back! Brock knew he had that with me – he understood, and I understood I had to have that with Brock.”

“It’s an attitude. He wants people to go in there and go after him. It is all of those things. I think that was the simplistic but major reason that we click the way we do; we step in the ring and we’re stepping in there for chaos and destruction to happen, and nothing less than that. I guess it’s some weird, unspoken gentlemen’s agreement we have!”

Samoa Joe captured the NXT Championship in his first match in over eighteen months when he defeated Karrion Kross at NXT TakeOver: 36. Joe will lead the once black and gold brand into what appears to be a new era of WWE’s developmental brand.

Brock Lesnar returned to WWE at SummerSlam last weekend. It was Lesnar’s first appearance for WWE since WrestleMania 36 when he confronted Roman Reigns after Reigns had defended the Universal Title against John Cena.’

There’s no word on if Joe and Lesnar will ever have a match again, but if they do, we know that they would enjoy it.
