Samoa Joe Teases Match Against NJPW Champion

Samoa Joe has teased a match with a current champion from New Japan Pro Wrestling following a tag team match in ROH.

Ever since he won the Ring of Honor TV Title on the April 13, 2022 edition of AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe has been a dominant champion that has held the title for over 400 days.

While Joe hasn’t been seen on AEW television regularly this year, he is on Ring of Honor’s streaming show on Thursdays.

During his ROH TV TItle reign, Joe has defended the championship against men like Juice Robinson, Christopher Daniels, Mark Briscoe and Blake Christian.

On this week’s ROH episode on Honor Club, Joe teamed up with the NJPW World Title Champion Zack Sabre Jr. to defeat Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal. Sabre Jr. has been the ROH TV Champion since the title was introduced in January, so it’s been a five month title reign.

After the match, Joe and Sabre were interviewed about their win, which led to an argument about who is the better TV Champion. They would end up agreeing that “maybe they need to find out” who is better.

That likely means a match is coming. Whether that happens on ROH TV or AEW TV is unknown, but the perfect spot for a match like that could be the AEW-NJPW Forbidden Door 2 pay-per-view on June 25th in Toronto.

As for what else AEW has planned for Samoa Joe, he is being advertised for the June 17th debut of AEW Collision in Chicago. There have also been reports that the returning CM Punk wants to face his mid-2000s ROH rival Samoa Joe in AEW soon, so we could see the start of that rivalry.
